This month in the Shakti Sisterhood, we’re studying and embodying the fierce, holy story of Thecla, guided by Meggan Watterson’s powerful new book, The Girl Who Baptized Herself. (I highly recommend both the printed and the audiobook!!)

Thecla’s story was beloved by early Christians—especially women—but later buried by the institutional Church because it threatened the rising patriarchal order.

Why? Because Thecla preached, baptized herself, refused marriage, and followed divine love over social expectation. She embodied spiritual sovereignty in a time when women had no rights, no property, and no power over their own bodies or lives.

It’s important to understand the world she was living in because that context makes her transformation even more potent and relevant today.

In the 1st century...

Women were their husbands’ property.

They couldn’t own land.

They had no legal power.

A woman’s worth was determined entirely by men.

And yet—Thecla becomes a template of transformation for any of us who have ever been told, or led to believe, that we are not worthy to be divine.

Meggan Watterson writes,

“We are only ever as far from our power as we are from our own embodiment.”

Thecla shows us that true transformation doesn’t begin with some heroic external journey.

She begins simply—by going inward.

She stops. She listens. She asks herself:

✨ What are my deepest desires?

✨ What choice have I been making again and again, hoping for different results?

These are the questions we are living into this month, and they are the perfect questions to ask as we approach the peak of the Lionsgate Portal—a time of heightened energy, clarity, and cosmic support for heart-aligned transformation.

To honor this portal, I’m offering a FREE Lionsgate PranaShakti Dance Activation Class on Friday, 8/8 at 9 am CDT (online).

Let’s move together. Let’s shift old patterns. Let’s activate our deepest desires in the light of this powerful cosmic gateway.

And if Thecla’s story stirs something deep in you—join us here in the Shakti Sisterhood. We’re diving deep into her story all month long, embodying her courage, sovereignty, and divine connection through story, movement, meditation, and sisterhood.

With love,

Deb
