That's Not My Thought!

Last night, in the middle of a restless dream, I heard a voice say:

“That’s not my thought.”

It woke me up.

As I lay there in the quiet, I realized how many charged, urgent thoughts had been moving through me — and how some of them weren’t even mine. They were in the collective field. Fear loops. Old energies stirred by what’s surfacing.

Right now, a lot of disturbing information about abuse, injustice, and corruption continues coming to light. And when that happens, the energetic field gets loud.

I’ve been reflecting on something Dr. Mario Martínez teaches — dysfunctional empathy isn’t the same as healthy compassion.

Dysfunctional empathy absorbs suffering into the body and spirals with it.
Healthy compassion says, “I feel this,” and then asks, “What’s mine to do?”

That question has been helping me so much.

For me, one answer has been supporting families being detained and deported through an organization called Each Step Home. It’s one place where I can direct my energy intentionally instead of letting it scatter.

And when there’s no direct action to take, we still have agency.

We can regulate.

We can pray.

We can guard our thoughts.

We can say, gently but firmly,

“That’s not my thought.”

Not every wave in the field is yours to carry.

Staying spiritually awake doesn’t mean absorbing every frequency. It means discerning what’s yours… and releasing what isn’t.

Let’s guard the integrity of our inner field so our presence and our actions actually make a positive difference.

I’m walking this with you,

Deb
